Cleaning a stainless steel bottle is child’s play, no need for chemical cleaners or dishwashing liquid. Simply fill it with warm, soapy tap water, replace the leak-proof cap, and give it a little shake. Empty the bottle, then rinse it with lukewarm water. Place it on a support to dry. If it needs to be deep cleaned, use equal amounts of baking soda and bleach, or fill it halfway with vinegar, add the water, and let it sit overnight.
Hand cleaning
The best water bottle is halfway with a solution of warm water and soap. The easiest way to clean your stainless steel water bottle is to fill it halfway with water and add a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Replace the bottle cap. Shake the bottle vigorously for several seconds. Unscrew the bottle, then empty its contents.
Rinse and dry the bottle. Successively fill and empty the bottle several times with hot water. Turn it over and place it in your locker to dry.
Use a silicone bottle cleaning brush. If the neck of your thermos is too narrow for you to reach the bottom and inside of the insulated bottle with a traditional sponge, you can use a bottle brush to clean it. A water bottle brush is an elongated cleaning device to help you clean the deep recesses of your stainless steel water bottle. These brushes are especially useful if you have filled your stainless steel water bottle with something other than water.
Some stainless steel water bottles come with a brush. But if yours doesn’t have one, you can get one online or at your nearest local store.
Rub the ridges. If your Stainless steel travel tumbler has a screw cap, it is important to clean the threads that wrap around the neck of the water bottle. To do this, simply moisten a sponge with soapy water and grip the inside and outside of the neck of the bottle with the sponge. Rub the sponge along the neck of the bottle several times to clean it.
Alternative cleaning methods
Place your water bottle in the dishwasher. If you have access to a dishwasher, you can simply place your Stainless steel travel tumbler in there with the rest of your dishes when you’re ready to run a cycle. Place the bottle in the dishwasher upside down, without its lid. Also place any detachable parts – a cap or straw, for example – in the dishwasher.
Add an appropriate amount of dishwasher detergent, close the dishwasher, and run a regular cycle. Before putting your Stainless steel travel tumbler in the dishwasher, check that it is dishwasher safe. For example, the bottom of the bottle may say “Dishwasher Safe.” Bottles that are painted or insulated are probably not dishwasher safe.
Use vinegar to clean the water bottle. Fill the Stainless steel travel tumbler with white vinegar to about 1/5 of its capacity. Fill the bottle with water to the end. Let the water bottle sit overnight. In the morning, pour in the vinegar/water mixture. Rinse the water bottle thoroughly with water, then return it to your locker to air dry.
Use baking soda and bleach to clean the water bottle. Add one teaspoon of bleach and one teaspoon of baking soda to your water bottle. Fill the bottle with water to the end. Let the water bottle sit overnight. Empty its contents the next day, then rinse it carefully with water. Turn it over to air dry.
