All eyes are on the BCCI as the cricketing world eagerly waits for the board to announce the schedule of the TATA Indian Premier League 2024 (TATA IPL 2024). While the tournament is set to start in March, the BCCI has not been able to finalise the schedule.
The reason behind the delay is the general elections this year. Security will be a huge matter of concern for the IPL this year as the security personnel will be busy with the elections. And although the BCCI has reportedly got the assurance from the government for the tournament, the schedule will depend a lot on the General Election timetable.
In 2009 and 2014, the tournament had to be shifted outside of the country due to elections. In 2009, the entire IPL was held in South Africa while in 2014, a part of the tournament was held in the UAE. Five years later, the IPL was held entirely in India in a general election year for the first time and the BCCI is hopeful that it would be able to host the competition in the country this year too. The board will have to align the IPL 2024 schedule with the general elections in order to hold the league in India.
IPL 2024 schedule: Expected time
While the BCCI has not announced the schedule yet, several reports suggest that IPL 2024 is scheduled to be played from March 22. The final is reportedly set to take place on May 26, just five days before the start of the ICC T20 World Cup. However, India are scheduled to open their campaign on June 5.
IPL 2024 schedule: The cricketing world is eagerly waiting for the brand new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Indian Premier League 2024 or IPL 2024 will be the seventeenth season of the IPL. Organised by the BCCI, the tournament was started in 2008. In the first year, eight teams participated in the competition. At present, a total of ten teams participates in the IPL.
In 2022, the BCCI added two new teams to the tournament – Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans. The upcoming season of the tournament will also feature 10 teams. The forthcoming season will get underway soon after India’s ongoing season ends after the conclusion of the five-match Test series against England.
Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions. The Chennai-based outfit defeated Gujarat Titans in the final to win the title for a record-equaling fifth time. With Chennai Super Kings being the reigning champions, the final of IPL 2024 is set to take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
IPL 2024 Schedule:
The BCCI is yet to announce the IPL 2024 schedule. There were apprehensions that the tournament might get shifted outside the country due to the general elections this year but reports have suggested that the BCCI is set to conduct the entire competition in India. The election is one of the main reasons behind the delay in IPL 2024 schedule announcement.
The schedule is dependent heavily on the election timetable. The schedule is likely to be announced only after the election commission announce the election dates. As per reports, the BCCI wants to conduct IPL 2024 from March 22 to May 26.
