The best raid bosses in Destiny 2 have amazing powers that are only really shown in the game’s lore. This makes it hard to say which boss is the strongest.
Raids are probably the best endgame action in Destiny 2 that Bungie has to offer. Raids in Destiny 2 put players against enemies of the Traveller, and each one has a different set of rules, tasks, and rewards for mastering them and beating the odds. The best raids in Destiny 2 have come and gone, but the stories of the raid bosses who were the biggest are still around.
Destiny 2 has a total of ten raids and two raid lairs. This is one reason why Destiny 2 is thought to be one of the best first-person games for the PS5. Even though some of this material has been locked away, the legacy remains, and players may want to know about the strongest raid bosses in Destiny 2, the dangers the Guardians face, and what could happen if these brave fireteams of six didn’t end their scourge.
Val Ca’uor
During the Red War, when Dominus Ghaul died, Val Cau’uor took over as the real leader of the Red Legion. Val Ca’uor led an attack on the Leviathan as part of his quest for power and his fight against the Guardians. This was the start of the Raid Lair: Spire of the Stars. Val Ca’uor wanted to show the galaxy how strong the Red Legion was, but he failed horribly.
Val Ca’uor wasn’t special at all. If anything, he’s just a big, heavily armoured Cabal fighter. Val Ca’uor could only get into the Leviathan and kill a few of Calus’ soldiers before being killed by a group of six Guardians. Val Ca’uor is a Strike boss with a few extra tricks for the Guardians. Outside of his boss room, he doesn’t pose much of a threat.
Insurrection Prime, Kell’s Scourge
During the Scourge of the Past raid, the Guardians took the defence to the Last City of Earth, where they fought Insurrection Prime in their last stand. This raid boss was a Prime Servitor that had been rebuilt into a powerful war machine that was a mix between a Servitor and a Brig and had enough power to destroy the Last City.
Even though Insurrection Prime has the power to destroy the Last City, he doesn’t have the drive, will, or power to be more than just a city-killer. Insurrection Prime doesn’t have any big skills besides machinery and firepower, which means they can’t do much against threats that don’t come from science.
Taniks, The Abomination
Guardians have had a hard time with Taniks since before Destiny 2. This person has lived and died many times, and maybe he hasn’t died for the last time yet. Taniks is a Fallen assassin who doesn’t belong to a House and is only loyal to the people who pay him. He has killed a lot of Guardians and been killed by a lot of Guardians. With each death, he becomes more of a robot.
In the Deep Stone Crypt raid, Taniks came back, which surprised a lot of people. At this point, Taniks was more like a machine than Eliksni, so he was called “Taniks, the Abomination.” Taniks isn’t at his best in this form. He’s tied to a floating chair and armed with bombs, so he can be dangerous, but he doesn’t have the power of the Darkness or the ability to destroy time streams.
Argos, Planetary Core
The Guardians found Argos, Planetary heart, a huge Vex Hydra in the Eater of Worlds raid lair. It was deep in the Leviathan’s heart. Already, it doesn’t look like Argos is the biggest threat. If they can get stuck in the Leviathan’s stomach, their only real threat is to clog up the machinery inside the Leviathan.
This raid boss doesn’t care about size, since Argos is the biggest Hydra the Guardians have ever met, but they aren’t the hardest. Like all Vex, Argos’s complex machinery doesn’t have the power or understanding to deal with the coming paracausal. It also doesn’t know how powerful the Leviathan’s Breath is, like many other Vex.
Emperor Calus
Guardians worked together to board the Leviathan, a huge ship that looked like it was as big as a small moon, for Drift Boss game’s first raid. Emperor Calus, the boss of the Cabal who was sent away, would be on board. But during the final boss fight of the Leviathan raid, players would find out that this Calus is a robot. This meant that the real skills of Calus had not yet been seen.
Even though players have seen Calus’s power in Lightfall, the raid boss is a robot version of him that doesn’t have much power, especially without his Psions to make a big and dangerous projection. Calus has a lot of robot bodies, and each one is armed like a warrior ruler. However, he has nothing to brag about when the Witness can give him ten times the power of a gun.
Gahlran, The Sorrow-Bearer
Gahlran had only one goal in life, and that was to wear the Crown of Sorrow. Gahlran was meant to use the Crown of Sorrow to take over the Hive and give Calus a new ally in his quest for power. But when the crown was put on Gahlran’s head, Savathun, the Witch Queen, who was leading a new threat in the Crown of Sorrow raid, took over his mind right away.
No one knows how strong Gahlran could have become with the ancient Ascendant Hive artefact the Crown of Sorrow. Savathun stole his thoughts, which means that the Witch Queen used him to do her work. This huge Cabal was made that way on purpose, and even though he had some paracausality skills, he was still no match for the Guardians. He would be Savathun’s follower.
Atheon, Time’s Conflux
The Vault of Glass raid is back in Destiny 2 as a modified version, and many Guardians rush in to farm the Vex Mytholcast exotic weapon. Like the rest of the Vex, Atheon is a mysterious being. Did the Vault of Glass make Atheon, or did Atheon make the Vault of Glass? Despite that, this raid boss has the power to warp space and time.
Atheon can pull Guardians into new time streams and realities whenever he wants. If they die or stay in these realities for too long, they are not only killed but also erased from existence, which means they never existed. But Atheon’s skills are no match for paracausal entities. This means that even though Atheon is strong, there are still worse things out there.
The Sanctified Mind
With the raid on the Garden of Salvation, a new Vex Axis Mind shows up. The Sanctified Mind is a bigger threat than the other Vex because it talked to the Witness and the Pyramids, which gave Darkness to the Sol Divisive Vex. The Darkness from the Black Fleet has twisted the Sanctified Mind, but it doesn’t have the power to fully use it.
In the grand plan of things, the Vex Axis Mind isn’t a big threat, but because it’s been exposed to the Witness’s powers, it has some abilities that other Vex don’t have. If the Sanctified Mind had been able to control its new powers, it probably could have covered the whole galaxy in Darkness.
Oryx, The Taken King
Oryx’s skills were given to him by the gods. Oryx has probably killed millions of worlds thanks to the power of the Taken and his position as God-King of the Hive. It’s hard to know how many lives Oryx has taken, and it’s clear that he doesn’t care. With his armies of the Taken and the Hive, he is a very big danger.
As an intelligent being, Oryx has talked to the Witness about his desire to be close to death. Oryx got the powers of the Taken from the Witness. This gave him the ability to make an army with paranormal powers. Oryx can also avoid dying in his throne world because of his skills, but that didn’t stop the Guardians from killing him in the King’s Fall raid.
Riven Of A Thousand Voices
Wishes can be very strong, and as an Ahamkara, Riven’s job is to make wishes come true. Ahamkara feeds off of people’s wishes, and Riven has become very good at doing this. Riven was the last boss of the Last Wish raid. When she died, irreversible things happened to the Dreaming City and the Awoken, which some people may see as Riven’s final win.
Riven was stuck in the Dreaming City because Mara Sov had taken him there to do what the Awoken people wanted. But when Mara Sov went missing, Oryx wanted Riven to be taken, which would give her more power from the Taken and put her in Savathun’s care. Riven was let out of her jail after she was defeated, because she was no longer afraid of death. She did this by turning part of the Dreaming City into the Ascendant Plain.
Nezarec, Final God of Pain
Nezarec has been dead for a long time, but he has come back, and he wants to make people scared and hurt. Nezarec can give his victims nightmares so he can feed off of their mental pain. Nezarec is feared and worshipped by a lot of different cultures, including the Psions and some people during the Collapse.
Nezarec has special skills on top of the psychic ones he already has because he is a Disciple of the Witness. Nezarec was reborn after the Traveller attacked him, so he now has both Light and Dark powers. However, the Guardians killed him in the raid on the Root of Nightmares before he could fully use these powers, probably because of the Gjallarhorn.Still, it’s not clear if Nezarec is really dead if he can still be seen in dreams and memories.
Rhulk, Disciple Of The Witness
The first Disciple of the Witness got his position because he did a lot of things that Oryx and the other Disciples who followed him couldn’t do. Rhulk was a grand lore in Destiny 2. He was a very powerful being who was very loyal to the Witness. He killed many worlds, including his own, Lubrea, to which he gave his Glaive.
If there was ever any doubt about Rhulk’s strength, let it be known that he used the bone of the Leviathan to pull the mother of the Worm Gods out of the deep. Rhulk has done a lot of amazing things, but his final mistake was that he thought the Guardians in the Vow of the Disciple raid were just decorations for his Pyramid and didn’t take them seriously enough.
Destiny 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
