What Is EPR Registration for Plastic waste management?

EPR, or Extended Producer Responsibility, is the system whereby companies that produce products with packaging are responsible for the plastic waste management of that packaging. This includes taking it back and recycling or disposing of it in an environment-friendly way. EPR Registration is mandatory on Producer, Importer, Brand Owners & Bulk Consumer of Electronic, Plastic & its associated products and Batteries products implemented by Govt. of India.

Eligibility Criteria for obtaining EPR Registration

Not all producers of plastic waste need to register with the EPR system. The eligibility criteria for registration are as follows:

  1. The producer must generate at least 1 ton of plastic waste per year.
  2. Applicable for importer using plastic in huge quantity like Plastic Packaging Material, Shrink Wraps, etc.
  3. Brand owner of Plastic product 
  4. Bulk consumer of plastic product 

If you meet these criteria, you are required to obtain an EPR registration issued by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)
